WEBINAR RECORDING: A CRO Perspective on the Challenges of Ecotox Testing for the Registration of Biologics

Presented: November 30, 2022

Presenter: Sarah McCoy – Staff Scientist I & Aquatics Operations Coordinator, Eurofins Agroscience Services

Moderator: Solito Sumulong – AgriThority and ISAA Agrochemical Network

Abstract: Biological products provide many benefits over conventional chemicals and are becoming an important component of integrated pest management systems, allowing for increased labor and harvest flexibility due to shorter re-entry requirements. Despite the potential benefits, biologics are relatively new and face significant hurdles to widespread use and development. While biologics cover a broad range of products with different regulatory requirements, this webinar will focus primarily on the testing of microbial pesticides that have data requirements that more closely match those for conventional chemicals. Comparisons between microbial and conventional testing will illustrate these differences, and recommendations will be made for improving and standardizing methodologies for testing.

Speaker Bio: Sarah McCoy is a staff scientist at Eurofins Agroscience services and is responsible for supporting the Aquatics department as a program coordinator.  She has a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Delaware as well as research background in biomarker discovery with extensive experience in molecular biology assays including RNA sequencing, qPCR and protein quantification methods.  Through her combined molecular biology background and experience in Aquatic ecotoxicology, she is a part of a multidisciplinary team that is supporting the Biologics Department at Eurofins Agroscience Services in the implementation of their Biologics testing program.
