WEBINAR RECORDING: Magnitude of the arthropod resistance to pesticides since the last century to the present time

Presented: May 11, 2022

Presenter: Dr. David Mota-Sanchez, Associate Professor, Department of Entomology, Michigan State University

Moderator: Tom Sparks, Agrilucent

The evolution of arthropod resistance to pesticides is one of the main challenges in the anthropogenic era. This class of organisms has been subject to intensive and extensive human selection pressure, thus providing a dramatic variety of examples of resistance microevolution to pest management including synthetic insecticides, Bt proteins, microorganisms derived toxins, and others. The consequences of resistance might be severe in terms of economic losses, crop damage, lack of control of vector-borne diseases, animal suffering, and in some cases detrimental levels of pesticide residues in the environment which affects non-target organisms. In this talk I will present the magnitude of resistance development to pesticides since last century to the present time. Our goal is to contribute to the sustainable use of these pest management tools that are essential for the current and future human generations.
